A mobile ordering and reservation app for a fictional Italian restaurant
The current website for this restaurant is outdated, confusing and hard to navigate. Users main goals are to reserve tables or order food easily from the comfort of their homes through their mobile phones. They should be able to achieve those goals with as few steps as possible.
Create a mobile application that solves users’ main pain points when navigating with the current site and make sure they can perform all actions with no trouble.
I conducted user interviews and surveys, ran a competitor analysis, and turned the gathered data into empathy maps, personas and user journey maps representing the people who use the restaurant's website.
Works in sales and needs a good restaurant with vegetarian options that displays weekly menus in advance. Tafadzwa and their partner are vegetarians who like to eat out, and they sometimes have lunch with clients or coworkers during the week.
A psychologist with his own clinic who needs a classy restaurant offering healthy yet refined dishes. Benjamin is a busy professional and parent who doesn't always find time to cook but wants to eat diverse cuisine regularly.
Users don't want more or fancier features, they want to reserve a table in as few steps as possible and see an updated menu regularly to decide if and when they want to go there.
The sitemap uses a hierarchical model with sequential steps: a flat menu of pages users can browse, plus step-by-step flows to book a table or order food. From there I sketched paper wireframes around the shortest path to each goal, then translated the personas' goals and frustrations into digital wireframes.
Conducted moderated tests with three people and unmoderated tests with four more. The findings were synthesized into an affinity diagram.
